During your dog’s visit with us, he/she may be exposed to a cough of undetermined origin.
We have seen signs of a strain of canine cough that is resistant to vaccinations. We have also seen this same cough in dogs who have not boarded or played here. It is similar to the human flu in that even vaccinated individuals may still remain susceptible.
If you notice your dog coughing, then you may choose to take him/her to the vet for antibiotics to fight secondary infections and/or for a cough suppressant. However, the cough typically resolves on its own. In mild cases, infected dogs typically remain active and continue to eat normally.
Regardless of whether you take your dog to the vet, we ask that you please notify us so we can continue to monitor the cough’s presence at the ranch.
- Coughing and retching
- Watery nasal discharge
Please know that we are doing everything we can to resolve this issue to ensure that everyone here is happy, healthy and safe.
